Abstract: The direct shear test on the trapezoidal specimen by means of tri direction jack is introduced as a new method to study the shear strength of the weak structural plane in the rock mass.It is proved that the method is feasible in the engineering practice and it also has referential value in researching the shear strength of rock with similar geologic conditions.
