The physical essence and the rule of strength-anisotropy under plane strain condition for granular meterials are studied in this paper. A theoretical expression has been derived from the fundamental limit equilibrium condition on the basis of Mohr-Culomb failure criterion. Moreover, two kinds of pratical expressions describing the rule by appearances have been suggested. The test date are well conformed with these expressions.
