Experimental study on a new stabilizer for stabilizing coastal chlorine soil

    • There is a large area of high saline dredger fill in China’s coastal areas that are needed to be stabilized. Self-made stabilizer A and portland cement are adopted to stabilize the dredger fill collected from the Tianjin Binhai New Area. The salinity of the dredger fill is 8%. Under the mixing ratio of 10% and 15%, the strengths of the stabilized soil by means of the stabilizer A are increased by 2.4 times and 1.7 times than those by use of the portland cement, respectively. The results from the s canning electron microscopy ( SEM), X-ray Diffraction ( XRD) and energy-dispersive X-ray ( EDXA) tests show that when using the stabilizer A to stabilize the soil sample TT, besides generating similar hydration products with portland cement, the stabilizer A can react with NaCl in the soil sample TT to generate Ca4Al2Cl2O6?10H2O, which greatly increases the strength of the stabilized dredger fill by its solid volume expansion.
