Major geological problems concerning hydropower development of Tiger Leaping Gorge of Jinsha River

    • There are significant benefits of hydropower development of Tiger Leaping Gorge, justifying the construction of Jinsha River Reservoir in the middle reaches with leading topographical and geological conditions. The hydropower development involves major engineering geological problems: dam-building in earthquake zone, dam-building under riverbed deep cover, large accumulation body stability near abutment and dam, large-scale stability of surrounding rock caverns as well as the high-slope stability, etc. Studies on those problems are of great significance to hydropower development projects of Tiger Leaping Gorge.
